Working From Home And Keeping Your Values
Working from home is a fantastic opportunity for most people. The prospect of working from home is especially appealing to those with children. The ability to coordinate the work day around the children's needs is a benefit worth more than gold. I personally am so thankful that I am able to help support my family while fulfilling the traditional role of a mother. I love being able to pick up my kids from school or to attend one of their functions without having to "take off" from my job. Today's mothers are faced with a dilemma in that they need to earn an income to support the family, but they also understand that their most important role is as a mother to their children. Working from home can offer women the best of both worlds.
However, there are some hazards to consider before deciding on working from home. One should be careful in choosing what avenues to pursue to secure a work from home income. With the Internet being prevalent in today's society, it has never been easier to find a variety of work from home options, but not all of these options are legitimate. Some individuals are using the Internet to take advantage of those who are naive. These individuals offer promises of incredible incomes if one will just invest a fee. Offers of stuffing envelopes from home, making crafts to sell to a company or any other offer requiring one to send in money should be carefully scrutinized. My rule is to never pay for any job opportunity. Another thing a person should consider is if a work from home opportunity is consistent with one's moral code. Scams like the ones mentioned above are propagated by individuals with no moral thermometer. Social attitudes toward many issues differs greatly from the believes of previous generations. Sex and vulgar language on the television and Internet is common place today. However, that does not mean such things are proper, it just means they are socially accepted. Whenever I consider a new assignment or opportunity, I carefully examine the requirements required of me. I then measure what is expected of me to my moral code. If I find any discrepancies then I do not accept the assignment. I know that it is not in vogue to be a Christian today. Christians are the butt of many jokes and the "religious right" is criticized openly. But, I am a Christian and I do try to live my life in a way that would be pleasing to God. That also includes the area of work. I do not accept any assignments that relate to drugs, alcohol or inappropriate sexual behavior. It would be easy to perpetrate one of the popular Internet job scams and make more money that I could imagine, but that is not the moral thing to do. Just as it would not be right for me to work for a company that sells alcohol when the Bible tells me it is wrong to be drunk. I know there are those reading this article that do not worship God, so why should they not accept the types of work discussed above? The answer is simple, because it is wrong. It is time that we as a society put aside our differences and agree that wrong is wrong. Stealing and perpetrating fraud are just unacceptable behaviors. It is not survival of the fittest; it is a travesty being committed on the vulnerable. Ill-gotten gains will never be fruitful.
