Money Maker
The Black Crowes Shake Your Money Maker
The 1990 release of The Black Crowes "Shake Your Money Maker" brought in the era of 90's rock with a bang. The hair bands made their mark in the 80's, but the Black Crowes introduced a new sound, which helped shape the 90's rock scene.
You can't ask for a better title than "Shake Your Money Maker" and the unique vocals of Chris Robinson replaced the high-pitched screams of many of the hair bands front men. The opening track "Twice as Hard" should be on everyone's workout cd compilation. In fact track number 2, "Jealous Again" track 3, "Sister Luck" and track 4, "Could I've Been So Blind" would also be great choices as well. One of the reasons "Shake Your Money Maker" works so well is how each member of The Black Crowes compliments each other. Nobody dominates the band's sound, not even the powerful vocals of Chris Robinson or the tasteful drum breaks of Steve Gorman. It would have been easy to continue with the hard-rocking heavy metal of the 80's with their wild guitar solos, screaming vocals, and booming drum breaks, but The Black Crowes chose to march onto the rock scene with their own version of a clean, smooth, and honest sound, which the band has continued onto their subsequent recordings. "Shake Your Money Maker" not only shaped the musical career for The Black Crowes, but also showed how one band would dare break out the mold and introduce an upbeat, versatile sound far different than anything heard before them.
