How To Make Money Writing Niche Blogs: Easily Earn A Few Hundred Bucks Per Month
I've been a freelance writing since 1993. Over the years, I've written everything from blog posts to case studies for clients. Over the last few years, I've started to put my writing skills to work for me - as a niche blogger. If you're a new freelance writer who wants to learn how to make money by not writing for clients, or an experienced freelance writer who wants to start investing your time developing your own products and services, following is how to make money writing by publishing niche blogs.
Before we delve into this, let's define exactly what a niche blog is. What Is Niche Blogging? Simply put, a niche blog is simply a blog devoted to a narrowly defined topic. For example, one of my blogs is about foreclosures. I discuss any and everything about foreclosures - everything from new legislation to mortgage modifications to government programs that help to stop foreclosure. Now that you know what a niche blog is, let's look at the main ingredients you need to make money writing one. To Make Money Writing Niche Blogs, You Must Love Your Subject Matter I start with this because too many bloggers start out choosing topics that pay well in terms of Google Adsense, which we'll discuss in a minute. That's why you'll see so many abandoned blogs about, for example, mesothelioma (a form of cancer), on the web by the way. You see, the way many blogs make money is via the Google ads placed on them. If you own a blog and you have Google AdSense ads on it, you earn money every time someone clicks on one. In some niches (like medical), you can earn $10-$20 for one click. But, if you don't love the subject matter, you won't invest in your blog - eg, update it regularly with interesting subject matter that readers will want to come back for. If you don't do this, it doesn't matter how high they payout per click is, you won't be able to make money writing a niche blog because visitors won't return and no one will click on your ads. To Make Money Writing Niche Blogs, Select High-Paying AdSense Niches While this may seem to contradict the above, it really doesn't. Choose well-paying niches that interests you. For example, I happen to love writing about real estate, mortgages and credit. And, in my past professional lives I've been a mortgage consultant and a real estate agent. So not only do I know the subject matter, I like it. And, it just happens to be in a high-paying niche. To Make Money Writing Niche Blogs, Select Helpful Affiliate Products When you get your blog up and going, select 1-3 (no more in my opinion) affiliate products you can promote on the site. This way, you earn money in two ways with your site, via the AdSense ads, and via the affiliate product sales. This goes without saying, but select affiliate products that complement your subject matter on your blog. There's a lot more that goes into niche blogging. I hope I've opened your eyes enough to see that to make money writing niche blogs is not hard, but there is a huge time investment required if you want to make money with it. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme like some make it out to be. But, the beautiful thing about niche blogging is that they can earn you money doing it for years to come.
