Spending Authority of the Government?
The Federal government has the power to spend in significant ways; this we all know. But where the government lacks authority in lieu of states' rights, they are for some explainable reason, permitted to have authority in unconventional ways. Let me explain shortly. The Federal government can't tell states what to do concerning speed limits or alcohol consumption, for instance (55 mph/21 y.o drinking age), but they CAN tell the states that if they don't comply with their orders, i.e Nixon's order to lower speed limits to 55 mph or they'll receive less federal funding, or the order to make the drinking age 21 or they'll cut funding. Am I the only one who finds this wholly unconstitutional? They aren't implicitly making the laws, but they are basically bullying states into accepting their opinions. This is exactly what WASN'T supposed to happen when the founding fathers drafted the Constitution. And furthermore, because states have become so accustomed to free money, they comply without regard to their citizens. They don't care what you people think, they want their money. We can ***** about the People receiving unjust 'entitlements' until the cows come home, but look at your own representatives who bend over when federal funding comes into play! States have become addicted to entitlements, yet they have you arguing over citizens getting welfare! What are your opinions on this subject? No dip Mike, but they accept all of these opinions in order to receive MORE money. You've missed the entire point you fool.
